Several strikes are planned for Thursday 8 March 2018. This will include Italian air traffic control between the hours of 1pm - 5pm. Expect delays in public transportation nationwide. Alitalia workers will strike intermittently throughout the day follow along Easy Travel Report


13 DECEMBER :-UPDATE ITALIAN TAXI STRIKE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Italian nationwide taxi strike is planned for Thursday, 14 December, 2017. Expect traffic jams around city centers, railway stations, ports and airports. Strike hours 8am - 10pm

Italian air traffic control strike is planned for July 5, 2017 1pm - 5pm has been cancelled and now planned for 26 July 2017, same time and same place.

Italian Taxi Strike - Nationwide
Rome and Milan expected to be hit hard by taxi strike
Tomorrow Italian taxi drivers will strike 8am to 10pm. BAD news for commuters extra traffic on road.
Demonstration in Rome, Madonna di Loreto square 9am - 2pm. Major disruption is expected in Rome and Milan several thousand participants expected.
Drivers will meet with government officials today 5pm.

Monday, 20 March 2017 Italian air traffic control strike 1pm - 5pm (local time) is on. Your flight could be brought forward, delayed or worse cancelled. Call your airline. Expect knock on effect, flights will be back to normal following day. Other airport workers will be on strike that day, not known what the effect will be, likely to involve baggage handling.
Update:-Monday 20th We have a bit more information about the airport workers strike. The 24 hour strike started at 00.01 hrs Flights between the hours of 7am and 10am will leave as with flights from 6 - 9pm.

Update:-21 July 2016 Good news, Italian air traffic control strike has been cancelled. Strike has been deferred to another date yet to be announced.

Perhaps you also need to know on Tuesday 26 July 2016 Be prepared not to get around Rome. A 24 hour public transportation strike is planned effecting Metro, buses, trolley buses, trams, regional railways Rome-Lido, Rome-Civita- Viterbo and Terms- Centocelle. This strike also includes the ticket office, Metroferroviarie Lines elevators, escalators and stairlifts. 
Minimal service will be in effect. Transportation will run till 8:30 am and start up again 5:30pm - 8:30pm. 
Expect traffic jams, shortage of taxi's.

Italian air traffic control strike 
Strike is planned for November 24, 2015 between the hours of 1pm and 5pm local time (just in time for American Thanksgiving travel plans, Thursday the 26th) 
By law a certain percentage of flights must leave. Italian government will tell airlines the percentage of flights to come and go.
Your flight will be delayed, canceled or brought forward. Call your airline. It's not just air traffic control, other aviation unions across the country will strike that day. Bad day over all Italian airports. (Remember, Italian strikes are notorious for canceling strikes at the day before)

Bari and Brindisi Airports ground workers will strike November 24, from 11am - 3pm

Rome's Ciampino and Fiumicino Airports will walk out between the hours of 1pm and 5pm on November 24th.

8 May, 2015 Rome Fiumicino Airport has had a fire in Terminal 3. Airport asking airlines to cut back flights by 50%. This is likely to go on for several weeks. Terminal is all but written off.

Update:-Friday 17 April 2015 Great news today. Enav call off Italian air traffic control strike for 21 April, 2015.

Italian air traffic control strike is planned for Tuesday, 21 April, 2015 from 1pm - 5pm. Your flight will likely be brought forward cancelled or delayed. As strikes go it's not very long. Still that doesn't make you feel any better does it. This has been on the books for a while. Your airline should be contacting you.
Alitalia flights likely to take the brunt of the strike action.

Update:-Thursday 19 March 2015. Sorry to tell you this air traffic control strike is still on, has NOT been cancelled. These are all local times. Strikes going on the same day Alitalia and Lufthansa airlines. If it cancels we will post it ASAP, but don't count on it. Italian airline Meridiana Fly has cancelled strike action. (they must have just woken up to the fact that flights will be grounded)


26 January, 2015 Two Italian air traffic control strikes you should be ready for. Flights will be grounded if these strikes go ahead.
17, February, 2015 1-5pm

20 March, 2015 from 10 am - 6 pm.

Last strike
Update Thursday, 15 January, 2015 :-Air traffic control strike is still on tomorrow. Rome's Fiumicino Airport baggage handlers may join in at the same time. Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways cancel flights.

Italian air traffic control strike is planned between the hours of 1 - 5 pm, four hours on Friday, 16 January 2015, local time. 
Again Italian air traffic control will strike
Tuesday, 17 February 2015 1 - 5 pm.

Italian air traffic control strike
Controllers will strike 1 pm - 5 pm local time Friday 12 December. It’s going to be a mess. Long hauls, short hauls and domestic flights will be grounded. 
In general flights will be not be normal till Sunday.

Alitalia Strike
Workers will strike from Noon - 4 pm. 

As this is a general strike airport workers baggage handlers, ramp workers etc will be striking from 10 am - 6 pm. 
Call your airline. Chances are you will be cancelled or brought forward or delayed.
You don’t want to be traveling around Italy that day. Call work, stay an extra day.

Monuments and museums likely to be closed.

Italian trains will strike all weekend.

Taxi’s will be hard to find, extra traffic on roads causing traffic jams, occasional road blocks.

Thursday, 25 September Excellent news. Yesterday, ENAV announce strike has been cancelled.

Tuesday, 23 September, 2014 Air France strike is still on going. Italian air traffic control strike is still on. 

18 September 2014 Italian air traffic control strike is still on. No news to the contrary. Have you been contacted by your airline yet or travel agent?

10 September 2014 Italian air traffic controllers (ENAV the big guns) strike planned for 27 September 2014 10 am to 6 pm local time. This time union chooses a Saturday to have more devastating effect. Strike length is long with potential to cause massive flight delays lasting till Sunday evening. Flights might not even get back to normal till Monday am. Expect your flight to be cancelled, moved up or delayed. Have a plan B for hotel accommodation. Long hauls will probably go, by law a minimal service must be in effect.

Other Italian aviation workers joining in this strike.  Alghero -  Riviera del Corallo - Airport in Sardinia will close from 11 am - 3 pm. Ryanair passengers to take the biggest hit. Ryanair has several flights leaving from this airport. Other airports in Sardinia Olbia in the northeast and Cagliari in the south.

We will be on top of this to see if it cancels and who else is going to join in ie: an airport or Alitalia.

Update:-14 September, 2014 Yesterday was the Techno Sky strike. We never heard a peep. Perhaps this strike was cancelled or Techno Sky runs a well oiled machine.

An ENAV (Italian air traffic control) company "Techno Sky" will strike 13, September 2014, nationwide, 24 hours.
Techno Sky is in charge:- per website:-is responsible for the management, servicing and maintenance of equipment and systems used for the national air traffic control, ensuring full availability and full operational efficiency without interruption.
(Not sure what effect this strike will have. Two other strikes earlier in the year were both cancelled)

Also two Italian air traffic control unions have a strike planned for the same time. Won't effect long-hauls.

Milan fashion week February 19-24  
Milan taxi drivers will have a protest Thursday, 20th February. Make plans if flying into Linate, Malpensa Airports or Milan train station. Thousands of buyers and journalists in town. Milan's Chamber of Commerce hoping to change drivers minds.

Italian EasyJet strike, nationwide, 24 hours, Friday, 7th March, 2014. Expect flights to be manned by foreign workers, no flights cancelled but you might be delayed. Change your flight before everyone else wakes up. This was announced January 28th. EasyJet

Italian air traffic control (ENAV)29 January 2014 Heads up, added to the mix wildcat strike by Linate airport taxi drivers, effecting airport and Milan train station. Malpensa might be getting affected as well.
