Italian taxi strike is planned for the 14th December. Be prepared to leave early for your airport as train stations, ports, airports, city centers might be blocked.

Italian air traffic controllers will also strike 15 December, 2017 1- 5pm, this includes Rome's air traffic control workers. Alitalia, Vueling, Ryanair all striking though out the day.

Bearing up to be a bad day for travel, Tuesday,
21 November, 2017 24 hour strike by taxi drivers. Be ready for your airport road to be blocked as well as roads around train stations along with traffic jams. Talks on going.
21 November, 2017 Bologna Airport workers will strike 1 - 5pm. Same time as workers at Pisa Airport will strike.
Baggage handlers will strike nationwide 1 - 5 pm.
Rome Fiumicino Airport and Brescia Airport will be hit by strike action Friday 10 November, 2017 between 1pm and 5pm. The general strike will effect public transportation nationwide. Strike includes rail see www.easytravelreport.com
Buses that serve the airport (perhaps this means airport shuttles?) will strike same day at Rome airports from 1 - 5 pm. Could cause big problems if you are leaving a car at the airport.
Bus company " Moriconi Massimo" perhaps there is more than one bus company... Or perhaps that's wishful thinking.
Update:-16 June 2017 Rome Fiumicino airport cancelled 56 and 53 arrival flights delayed.
Departures 65 cancelled and 118 delayed. What a day.
Friday 16 June 2017 A nationwide transportation strike is to take place in Italy. This will include aviation workers and rail. Leonardo Express will be running other public transportation in Rome will be on a go slow. Another Italian air traffic control strike is planned for Sunday, 28 May, 2017 between the hours of 10am to 6pm effecting flights to and from Rome. Your flight will be brought forward, delayed or even cancelled stay in close contact with your airline.

You should know an Italian air traffic control strike is to take place Friday, April 21, 2017 from 10 am to 6 pm. This will involve flights the day before and after. Call your airline.

Tomorrow Italian taxi drivers will strike 8am to 10pm. BAD news for commuters extra traffic on road.
Demonstration in Rome, Madonna di Loreto square 9am - 2pm. Major disruption is expected in Rome and Milan several thousand participants expected.
Drivers will meet with government officials today 5pm.

Update:-Thursday 23 July 2015 Long hauls not effected ie North America, South America and Far East. 15% of domestic and European flights will be effected.
Alitalia pilot's and flight crews will strike for 24 hours on Friday, July 24, 2015, 00.01 - 24.00. Stike will be nationwide. Will not include flights to Bologna and Venice. Call them a certain percentage by law will have to leave. Your flight will likely be brought forward, cancelled or delayed till following day.
Avio News state a thousand pilot's to be given the heave ho.
Alitalia flights go on sale in September, turning into a low cost airline. Don't get suckered into these flights, other airlines offering competitive prices who are not going to strike at the drop of hat are available. Pay attention if you have a Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year booking with this airline.

18 MAY 2015 T3 still closed as you can see here it was a bad fire. Fire chief being grilled, stating ceiling was on fire when firemen got to the airport. Firemen had no difficulty in getting to the airport. Questions being raised about other terminals fire safety, ie sprinklers and fire resistant materials.
Airlines being asked to cut back flights by 20%, it's getting better.
8 May, 2015 Rome airport asking airlines to cut back flights to Fiumicino by 50%. Not sure how long this is to last. Alitalia has moved all it's operation to Terminal 1.
7 May, 2015 Rome Fiumicino Airport has re-opened after last nights huge fire at Terminal 3.
All flights were cancelled. Other terminals not effected. Took firefighters 5 hours to get it under control. Passengers face long delays. Investigation to follow, was this "wilful"
7 May 2015 Last night around 10pm a fire started in Terminal 3 behind a fridge in one of the restaurants. Some intercontinental flights are arriving. Don't go to the airport till it's announced it's opened. Road to airport closed. Italian railway brings in empty trains to evacuate passengers from the airport.
6 May 2015 Alitalia flight attendants lift strike action.

Update Thursday, 15 January :-Air traffic control strike is still on tomorrow. Rome's Fiumicino Airport baggage handlers join in Corriere. Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways cancel flights.
Italian air traffic control strike is planned between the hours of 1 - 5 pm, four hours on Friday, 16 January 2015, local time.
Tuesday, 17 February 2015 1 - 5 pm.

Italian air traffic control strike
Controllers will strike 1 pm - 5 pm local time, 12 December 2014. It’s going to be a mess. Long hauls, short hauls and domestic flights will be grounded.
In general flights will be not be normal till Sunday.
Workers will strike from Noon - 4 pm.
As this is a general strike airport workers baggage handlers, ramp workers etc will be striking from 10 am - 6 pm.
Call your airline. Chances are you will be cancelled or brought forward or delayed.
You don’t want to be traveling around Italy that day. Call work, stay an extra day.
Italian trains will strike all weekend.
Taxi’s will be hard to find, extra traffic on roads causing traffic jams, occasional road blocks.

Sunday, 2 November 2014 Alitalia flights, Rome Fiumicino baggage handlers strike today. It's possible your bags will not be delivered till tomorrow. Alitalia flights effected by strike action from 7am to 1pm. (It appears when baggage handlers reported for work at 7am today. Magnetic strips had been de-activated. By 10am security personnel told them to leave - security risk. Strike in support of workers who are being let go on Monday)

Italian air traffic control have not given official notice of any strike action.
Italian official government strike page mit.gov.It states air strike from 00.00 - 23:59 EasyJet has notice up and were on top of thing early.
Bus, tram, metro and railways across Italy to have intermittent strikes throughout the day.
Problems for transportation will occur between the hours of 8:30 am and 5 pm and again 8pm till midnight.
Be prepared for the worst case scenario. Blocked roads to your airport, no trains to and from your airport, shortage of taxi's, extra traffic on the roads and traffic jams.
Rome's Roma Termini to Fiumicino Airport - Leonardo Express will be running as normal BUT Escalators and elevators will not. Tough for elderly.
Large demonstrations, thousands expected in Rome city center.
Trenitalia and Trenord some trains are guaranteed to leave.

6 August 2014 Baggage strike over late last night. Crews worked all night to clear the thousand bag backlog so flights would be ready to go today. Ansamed 6 August 2014 Nothing much out in the news today. Strike is still going on. Nothing on Alitalia website that we could see. Call your travel agent. Don't change your flight to TAP Airlines or Portugalia, airline to strike Saturday. Palma de Mallorca and Porto Airport both have baggage handler strikes.
5 August 2014 This Friday is the big announcement that Etihad will be taking over Alitalia. New boss, James Hogan flew in 7am under the radar from Abu Dhabi for meetings with management, unions and Italian government.
Etihad will cut 2171 jobs from the bloated airline.
Because of this passengers have to suffer.
This baggage strike has been going on since Sunday, bags are piled up.
If you codeshare with Alitalia you might get caught up in this. Otherwise other airlines so far have not been affected. Call your airline to double check.
No end in sight for this strike, could go on this week-end. We will be updating this page, as news comes in.
US Airways jetliner fuselage punctured by a cart ladder yesterday. Passengers all 297 put up in hotels.
If you can, we recommend you switch airlines. Aitalia likely to be in disarray for several months. Stay as far away from this airline as possible.
