April 19 TAP Airlines announce today that flights between Azores and mainland are likely to be compromised by the SATA Azores airline strike. TAP flies to Ponta Delgada, Terciera, Pico and Horta. TAP airline, just like you has no idea what is going happen till Monday and stated as much today. Arbitral Tribunal have issued minimal service from Ponta ie one flight per day by SATA Azores.

TAP cancels flights to Azores next Saturday and Sunday due to handling operator's strike

Due to handling employees’ strike at Azores airports, TAP is forced to cancel flights tomorrow, March 29th, and Sunday, March 31st, with origin or destination in this autonomous region.

12 March Update:- Some 21,000 reservations have been cancelled. Strike still on, all parties are talking.

Thursday March 21 - March 23. (Easter Friday March 29) Pilots and flight attendants, 12 different unions in all. Not a lot of information out yet. We suggest changing flight plans. Who knows if it's going to be planned as 8 hour strike here, 2 hours there or all day long. Minimal service will be in effect. (That may change) Largest ever protest march in Portuguese history over the weekend. Nothing up yet on TAP site. Union will present transport minister with a one way ticket back to Canada. Airline to be sold by the end of the year. I hope you are not booked with them for the holidays. If so, get travel insurance. Book a hotel at your airport at either end of your trip. Only cancel when you know you are safely online for your flight. Make sure you've got room on your credit card for unexplained expenses. Save all receipts. Issue will not be civil with employees. Your Christmas holiday is under a serious threat.

4 July Update:-European strike,
TAP PILOT STRIKE CANCELLED, CALLED OFF. ALL STRIKE DATES CANCELLED. YOU ARE GOOD TO GO. Have a safe holiday(Think of us, behind a desk, while you are on the beach yuckin it up..grrrr) TAP had to cancel 46,000 bookings in preparations for this strike. TAP Pilots state
"not making substantive, or the strike has no connection with the privatization" and who are driven only by the "defense of business and ethical principles, justice, labor and essential rules of the rule of law ". Bla Bla Bla.


4 July 2012 Update today on pilots strike. You should know Portuguese government is working hard to stop this strike.  On Monday TAP management filed an injunction to make strike illegal.  So far they've had no response. TAP expect 97% of flights to be cancelled. Here's where it gets interesting.
"On Tuesday, the Arbitration Tribunal decided that  TAP will have to make during the strike scheduled for nine days, return flights to Portugal flights to and from the Autonomous Regions, and several for Angola, Brazil, France and Switzerland."
By law they have to some flights flying. At the moment it's not looking good for leaving Portugal from any Portuguese airport.  This is where we are getting the information from. Sicnoticinas

28 June 2012 Update:-Good News for Portuguese airport travel. Portuguese air traffic controllers and airport workers have cancelled strike in place of more negotiations. Unfortunately some flights by TAP had to be cancelled in preparation for this strike. All in all things are looking up. (except for threat by pilots of course!)

19 June 2012 Unfortunately Portuguese air traffic control and airport workers are striking again at the end of the month. We will be updating as the news comes in. This is the first news.

Sunday 1 July 06:00 to 12:00 and 17:00 to 21:00.
Monday 2 July 06:00 to 12:00 and 17:00 to 21:00.
Tuesday 3 July 06:00 to 12:00 and from 18:00 to 22:00
All Portuguese airport workers will be on strike 2 July in the morning only. If you are flying in/out Portugal on the 2 July, change your flight now at your convenience and not someone else's.

Azores,
29 and 30 June, 3 July (for the three days between 05:00 and 11:00 and between 17:00 to 21:00),
July 1 and 2 July (from 05:00 to 11:00 and 16:00 to 22:00).

Nothing to do with TAP but, SATA Air Açores Union SNPVAC, gives management 30 days to resolve issues if not "notice of strike for July 31, 01, 10 and 11 August." If traveling on these dates confirm and reconfirm your TAP seat as passengers will be scrambling.

5 April 2012 Lisbon Airport Portuguese air traffic controllers will strike from 6am-8am UTC 12, 13, 19, 20, and 26 April. Short but not sweet, will ripple around network.

22 March Thanks to UGT not joining in Lisbon airport running as normal, TAP airline did not join in. Public transport was effected badly.

17 December January Transportes Aereos Portugueses Tap strike  has also been canceled.
14 December Pilots union will meet Friday, 3PM 16 December to decide whether to strike for those January dates.
9 December Tap pilot strike has been HALF canceled. Union has been given sufficient guarantees and that hey have a healthy working environment now. Union suggests to pilots they cancel January strikes as well.
Some 4-10 flights had been canceled or were booked the day before. Flights running normal now.

9 December 2011 Strike canceled. Union is recommending pilots cancel strike in January as well.

7 December:-Update TAP Air Portugal pilots, talks broke down, strike is still on. Company states they have 100,000 passengers booked for the first four days of the strike. Call your airline. 22 November, Yes, your flight will be changed to the day before or after. Flight groundings will change an hr or so either way of original airport strike time, depending on which airport your flying from in Portugal.

11-11-2011 General Strike in Portugal on November 24th

On November 24th a general strike has been scheduled in Portugal, having some of the unions represented in the air transportation sector confirmed that they will join the strike. Therefore and without disturbing flights that may go ahead and the minimum services that will be adjudicated, from now on, TAP informs its passengers of the following:

   No further reservations for flights scheduled for November 24th are being accepted;

   Passengers with flights scheduled for November 24th will be given the possibility to change to other dates;

   New information will be provided as soon as there's new developments.

TAP is joining all possible efforts to minimize any inconvenience that may be caused to its passengers.

20 October 2011 General strike to take place in Portugal Thursday, 24 November, 2011. Same day as last year.  National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) have announced they will also strike causing all Portuguese airlines to strike.
Air Traffic controllers are also joining in the general strike. No set time given so far. Expect to find trains, buses and ferries on strike that day. Taxi's hard to find. Perhaps call your airline to change flight.

10 June 2011 Tap Air Portugal strike has been cancelled.

3 June How thoughtful. Ryanair sends 10 roses to flight attendants union head. One for each day of industrial action.

1 June Tap Air strike by National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Attendants. Strike over the next ten days.

TAP Air Groundforce baggage handlers at Faro Airport will strike over the Christmas season.  Two 24 hour strikes December, 23 and 29 and 3 hour strikes starting Dec. 22, 24, 28 and 30 will be 3 hour strike.

Portugal is going to have a nationwide general strike.

16 October, 2010 Portuguese airline TAP cancelled 50% of it's flights due to French general strike this week.  Attention new nationwide French strike next week.

3/14/2010 Tap Portugal Airline strike, Friday, 26 - Wednesday, 31 March, 2010.  Pilots strike, on run up to Easter.All flights will be affected except those to Lisbon/Funchal/Madeira. 150,000 passengers may be affected, better call them. Pilots still want a 5.6% pay raise not the 1.8% offered by government. No charges for flight changes. reimbursement only if your flight is cancelled by the strike,

9/23/09 Pilot strike at TAP is on, 48 hours, will effect 40,000 people, 170 flights. Call airline they will put you on a chartered flight. Pilots want 9.3 per cent pay raise. 

Back again. Air Portugal strike is tentatively scheduled for Thursday 24th & Friday, 25th September 2009 should current negotiations not yield positive results.

Portugália (PGA) is not affected at this time. Again TAP air, apologizes for inconvenience and recommends passengers change day of travel.

Saturday, 8/29/09 Tap air, Baggage handlers called off strike today and all future strikes after breakthrough talks with management today.  The strikes delayed some flights 30-60 minutes, no flights cancelled. 70 percent of workers took part in strike,

8/14/09 Air TAP  Portugal, strike 28,29, August,11,12 ,September. 2009 by 5 unions.
Union gripe:-  Management salaries, the purchase of 30 new luxury cars for the airline’s top brass.
Workers at the airline have had no increases for over a year due to the company’s cost-saving policy.

Management:- industrial action this summer will effectively rule out any talk of wage increases as each day of the strike will cost the airline in the region of five million euros.


First six months this year, 09. Air TAP Portugal,  has suffered a crippling loss of €72.4 million and a decrease of 6.2 percent in passengers, Will reduce flights by 10 percent.

4 June 09 from 4 June until 13 June 2009 TAP Portugal industrial action. Severe delays and cancellations. Heathrow and Portugal and flights from Gatwick to Madeira would not be affected by the industrial action.

19/12/08  Air TAP  Portugal, Strike called off.

12/17/08  Possible one day strike by Tap cabin crew this Saturday 12/20/08 Airline warning of major disruption, industrial action, cancelled flights and delays. Passengers should re-book for another week-end, full refunds available.
