Wage increases would increase the top hourly pay to about $25, wage increases will cost the agency about $27.7 million over four years, average pay for drivers, including overtime, is about $50,000.
Workers would pay more in co-pays for doctor's office visits and some prescription drugs. Increased premium contributions will save the agency about $6.7 million over four years, and changes to the health plans offered will save another $4.3 million in that time. Port Authority's health care costs increased from $39.4 million in 2004 to $58.7 million this year. The agency projected running out of cash in 2010 unless changes were made. Pension costs increased from $3.3 million in 2004 to $17.9 million this year.
More people retired than are working. (Sounds familiar, American car workers) The contract includes a provision that locks in the age for retirement eligibility of workers nearing retirement. Nov 5, Update:- Pittsburgh Public transportation, Bus and Trolley service in Allegheny County, last August drivers accepted contract, now having regrets. Do they really earn $24.25 an hour, with health insurance? New contract due to start December 1. Port Authority is developing a plan to cut bus and T service by 30 percent, with a loss of 24,000 riders. If the Union does a" lock-out" they will receive unemployment compensation. A lockout is a work stoppage in which an employer prevents employees from working. This is different from a strike, in which employees refuse to work in this case won't get paid. To make matters worse the county is holding back its annual subsidy worth a nice $27 million. When they receive this money they then receive another $183 million in state money. How do I get some of this. Add this together, 210 million divided by 220,000 riders. What's that per person? Perhaps we could pool and take large stretch limo's. Beats standing on a cold frigid windy dark night at rush hour waiting for a non existent bus. Or would you rather be in Austin, Texas, 50's, rainy, same Union.
