Bus strikes in Texas, Public Transportation
11/10/08 Monday, This is what they got:-  Higher bonus payment, but lower and slower scheduled raises. Cap on workers annual medical expenses and newer drivers will reach top salary faster. Members will vote on this deal tomorrow.  Details will be released tomorrow.

11/9/08 Sun.  Capmetro will be back to work Mon am as normal. Tentative agreement reached

11/7/08   Tentative agreement Friday night. Check the Cap Metro,website for the week-ends schedule.

11/7/08 Today's the big meeting day..

11/5/08 124 StarTran employees crossed the picket line and reported for work. This allowed Capital Metro to increase some services. Doubled usual wait time.

11/5/08  Drivers and mechanics stayed home today. Ride for free today. Tuesday, they exchanged letters and no negotiations till Friday, thousands of commuters left in the lurch, skeleton service. 

10/31/08 Austin TX, Public transportation,  Cap Metro Workers Planning to Strike on Wednesday beginning 3:15 a.m. on November 5th. A plan in place if the strike does happen, which involves scaling back to 10 core routes.  Those routes will mainly serve downtown Austin, and UT shuttles will not be affected..The Union hoped to start the strike sooner, but they did not want to make it difficult for voters to get to the polls Election Day, Nov. 4. Strike will not effect Univ. of Texas shuttle buses. Better make sure your boss knows!

8/12/08  US Austin, TX. Transit union that represents 825 bargaining Capital Metro drivers and mechanics is urging rejection of the proposal, citing higher out-of-pocket health care costs and a lack of pay increases during the first year of the contract. KXAN.com

What bargaining power? Slumped economy, falling gas prices.  Unsympathetic public and a US election to distract commuters.
