New bus system will begin operating in Johannesburg on 1 June, 2009

4 May, 09 Monday Johannesburg Metrobus drivers have been on strike for a week. Union and bosses fail to make an agreement. Commuters and parents of school children frustrated.  Another meeting called today.

(2 May 09 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will roll out first phase on time for the FIFA Confederations Cup  tournament.

The BRT routes for Phase 1A will run from Regina Mundi to Orlando where it will link the stadium in Orlando to Soweto. The BRT routes will also run from Soweto, along Pat Mbatha Highway, to the Inner City, along Market and Commissioner Streets.

The two loops in the inner city will link the stadium in Orlando to the stadium in Ellis Park by passing through the Joubert Park area.)

1 May, 2009 All parties will meet on weekend.

28 April, 20089 Tuesday, Thousands of Metrobus commuters seek alternative transport bus drivers  on strike. Metro bus drivers who are not participating in the strike will stop work as not to provoke violence.  People that were victim of last years stike are still in wheelchairs.




12/12/08  Bus strike in southern Johannesburg today has ended same day.. Started at the Main depot and never spread to other areas.   Just long enough to leave commuters stranded.  Dispute was quickly settled.
