13 October Strike is over with earlier this week. 

28 September 2012 South African truck drivers on strike today. 20,000 truck and freight drivers. Medical supplier Abbott Laboratories stops deliveries in Gauteng. Lorry drivers looking for a 12% pay raise owners will not go hire than 6%. Truck union SATAU asking airline and maritime unions to join in. No petrol shortages, yet and ATM's have plenty of cash.

April 16 2009 Thursday, The nine-day truck drivers strike is over.  Union successfully made a two year agreement for the minimum wage for long distance drivers to R6000 from R4 300.  General workers salary went up to R3 000 from R3 500.  Also agreed upon was maternity leave for women will now be entitled to 33 percent of the basic wages and "this amount shall be paid by the employer weekly on the usual pay day". bringing it inline with the provisions of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.

Thousands of Satawu members are expected at work on Thursday.

14 April, 09 Tuesday.  People back to work today.  Some gas stations have been restocked.  No reports of violence around the country reported.

South African Fuel Retailers' Association  calling on the government and oil companies to beef up security so drivers can get through.  

Zululand District Municipality hit worse, have been out of petrol since Friday. for deliveries.


9 April, 09 Thursday, All parties agreed to 11 percent increase in salary today. One more sticking point, Union want's it for all employees, not just Satawu members.The employer’s association may be willing to extend the agreement if Satawu can prove it represents employees not covered by the Bargaining Council.  No more meetings scheduled, strike still continuing.

Problems reported, shortages at petrol stations and oil,  medical supplies including oxygen and medical waste, fresh vegetables, milk and animals destined to market.

8 April, 2009 Day 2, Negotiations still on going. Public filling up spare gas tanks for Easter.

South Africa, Strike set. 60,000 Truck, lorry driver strike to start Tuesday, 7 April, 2009. Called by the Satawu members, over better working conditions and pay. Average monthly salary  R4 300 a month, supplemented by long hours of overtime driving. Which adds to the dangers of  the road.

Negotiations between SATAWU and Road Freight Association have been going on since November, 08. Protests expected in Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban, Johannesburg,  Cape Town and Pretoria.

Expect shortages and price gauging at the petrol pumps, diesel, food shortages. Local transit may run out of petrol early on if strike lasts an extended time. Taxi rides become absorbent.  Business will close doors if trucks can't deliver raw materials to them. Trucks which get caught up in the strike have to let cargo rot at port. Strike action expected at Unitrans, Imperial Cargo, Consolidated Freight, DHL Standard, SPS Courier Services, Ward Afrovan, Biddulphs and cash-in-transit security companies'.

Perhaps someone should suggest,to Satawu they should leave essentials and medicines exempt from strike.

Comes just in time for Easter travel this weekend. Fill spare gas tanks now!  Make sure you have enough petrol for work!  Roads maybe blocked by disgruntled drivers. Easter Road Safety campaign in Mtunzini, on the North Coast. Patrols would be conducted in the province during Easter, focusing on pedestrian safety, drunk driving, public transport, reckless overtaking and vehicles without number plates. Average 40 deaths a day!
