11/25/09 Here's one result in. Unite, 500 engineering and electrical union members will refuse to do overtime over Christmas, not a strike.  So we can get around. Starts 7, December, 09 Union members rejected two year pay deal, 1.5 per cent pay rise this year followed by an inflation-plus-0.5 per cent rise in 2010-11. Reminder, don't book a flight with British Airways, Aer Lingus, both really shaky for Christmas and New Year.

12, October, 2009 Hang on, it's not over.  Unions RMT and  Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen, (ASLEF) have rejected offers and are considering a strike. TSSA have already accepted an offer.

7/3/09 New offer and final offer from LU today.
The 'Very fair offer':- Two year deal, 1.5% rise in the first year followed by 0.5% the next year. London Underground did not assure jobs which is the sticking point with the RMT. Also working hours and other terms and conditions will remain unchanged....ie:- layoffs.

RMT initialy wanted, no redundancies, 5% pay raise. This offer is an improvement of 0.5% in the first year, from the last offer. Staff like the two year deal.

6/24/09 Yes, air-conditioned London tube trains, due to enter service on the Metropolitan line next summer after that it will be the Circle, District and Hammersmith & City lines turn.
As for this year the hottest summer in years, 83 industrial sized blue fans will be in operation at 36 locations on the tube network to help increase ventilation, will just have to do.

Friday, 12 June 09  London Underground strike, All lines were back to normal this morning. Businesses lost 100 million pounds ($150 million). Talks with a mediator are scheduled next week.

11 June, Thursday, strike over. Bicycles trebled to 1.5 million journeys, 10,000 people used a free shuttle boat service, 100 extra buses were laid on and a million people used the TfL website for travel information.

Events that will be disrupted by this industrial action. Britney Spears concert at the O2 Centre,  a Twenty 20 cricket match at Lord's cricket ground and a England World Cup qualifier England v Andorra at Wembley Stadium on 10 June, FA suspended ticket sales, possible £500,000 loss in revenue. Tickets will be made available once a decision is reached regarding the Tube strike. FA will give more information to fans Wednesday 10 June.  Wimbledon's not till 22 June - 5 July. 8 June, 09 Monday, TfL wants you to leave a lot earlier than usual and to be prepared to walk. 70 percent chance of rain for Wednesday predicted, Thursday 20 percent. Parties met again today. No deal.10-hour talks failed to produce a breakthrough. Strike ON. starting 7pm Tuesday evening. 


Buses:-All London's 8,000 buses will be on the roads serving 700 routes. Buses start rolling out of the garages around 5.30am to 6am, the same time the Tube usually starts up. Victoria and Euston bus stations will be a nightmare. 

Bike:-Five escorted rides into central London. at 7.45am from Finsbury Park main gate, Mile End Green Bridge, Ravenscourt Park, Brixton Road and Swiss Cottage.Additional parking for bikes and thousands of cycle maps will be distributed across London. Biketube.org  
Wednesday, Bike racks in Trafalgar Square lay empty. 

Rail:-Mainline rail services are not affected and will run as usual, as will the Docklands Light Railway and London Overground services will operate as normal.  Loud speakers will tell you where to catch buses.        10 June,09 Wednesday,District line reduced shuttle service between Wimbledon to High St Kensington, Jubilee, reduced shuttle service between Stanmore and Neasden, and Waterloo to Stratford. Met reduced shuttle service between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Baker Street. Piccadilly, reduced shuttle service Arnos Grove and Cockfosters. Victoria, reduced shuttle service from Seven Sisters to Victoria. All other lines suspended 

Taxi:-Taxi sharing, fixed-fare shared service for central London at Waterloo, Liverpool Street, London Bridge, Marylebone, Paddington and Euston. Long queues formed at taxi ranks at all major rail interchanges across the capital. Communal Cabbing by bbc

Shuttle:- Free Thames river shuttle.

By road:- Roads and the Congestion Charge to help keep traffic flowing the Congestion Charge will remain in operation through-out the strike and TfL will be suspending road works on major London roads wherever possible. Where possible, Londoners and commuters are encouraged to consider alternatives to the car.  AA for the road ahead.

By River:- City Cruises - will be operating a free peak shuttle every 10 minutes between 0700-1000 and 1500-2000 on both main strike days between Westminster - London Eye -Tower Bridge. Thames Clippers - As well as the normal commuter services (between Embankment and Woolwich) Thames Clippers will be providing additional shuttle services between London Bridge and Canary Wharf and between Greenland Pier (Rope St Deptford) and Canary Wharf during the peak morning commute. As usual travel card holders will receive 1/3 off the ticket price. 

 Futuresource 2009:-Chartered Institution of Wastes Management has announced that special buses will collect delegates from major London overground stations Paddington, Victoria and St Pancras overground stations heading to the event at the Exhibition Centre London (ExCeL) in the Docklands if the proposed strike goes ahead.

5 June,09 Friday,  After parties met today, LU ups the wage offer.  Four year offer of 1.5 percent this year and 0.5 percent above inflation for the next three years. Alternative offer of two-years of one percent this year and inflation plus 0.5 percent next year.   Lets see.
Drivers, station staff and engineers are all due to go on strike, which, when combined with the fact that non-RMT staff will refuse to cross picket lines, will bring the tube network to a standstill. 

4 June 09 Thursday, RMT, LU and TfL have all agreed to meet tomorrow.

3 June 09 Wednesday, Nothing new to report.  Parties still not talking.  Strike still on.  Why not rent a bike OYBike  Or how about a Seghire or Hummer limo.
Trying to get a cab is almost out of the question.  Bus, lucky if you have standing room.  Horse and Carriage would be good, Al Gore would be proud.  What about "footing" as the Italians call it.  You'll need new sneakers, get them now before they have a run on them. Do you know someone with a canoe on the Thames?

2 June, 09 Parties fighting it out in the press. 

TfL's annual report showed that 123 of its managers earn more than £100,000 a year, with five earning more than £250,000 plus bonuses, the RMT said.

TfL said the union "continues to avoid engaging in any meaningful talks".

5/29/09  Mayor of London Boris Johnson refused to meet with RMT union leaders today. RMT Unions industrial action over  a five year plan which involves pay cuts and compulsory redundancies. they prefer five per cent pay rise and a shorter working week.Total breakdown of talks between union and LU. Commuter rail routes will pick up some of the slack.

5/28/09 London Underground strike, 48 hours this time. RMT members on the Tube will walk out from 6.59pm on Tuesday June 9 until 6.58pm on Thursday June 11. Dispute with LU and Transport for London (TfL).  Thousands of commuters will be effected.
More than 2,800 workers voted in favour of strike action

5/19/09  Issue never went away, time for commuters to suffer, a nightmare. 
Victoria Line, on strike, disruption to 600,000 passengers who use the Victoria Line daily, one of London's busiest underground lines.  Action, by RMT union members out of Seven Sisters depot in north London.  Strike will be for 24 hours starting 9pm Wednesday ending 8.59pm Thursday.

20 April, 2009 London, Tube drivers will strike for 24 hours. Starting, 9pm tomorrow, Tuesday evening,180 drivers, Victoria line one of London's busiest lines.  Drivers are from the Seven Sisters depot in north London.  LU suggesting passengers take a different route to work and that the strike is unnecessary.  RMT union complaint over safety issues.

1/29/09 1, 000 jobs to be cut at the London Underground.  They will do this by not filling vacancies and cutting temporary posts in finance, IT, legal and admin departments.

6 Nov 08 London Mayor Boris Johnson will cut the budget for London Transport by 2.4 billion pounds (3.4 billion dollars).  The ten year budget is 80 million pounds!





Network Rail and the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) identified the London to Brighton line into Victoria, the South West Trains route into Waterloo and services from Tonbridge and Kent into London Bridge as the services most likely to need replacing.
