Michael Roy Shick, a 27 year old Vancouver resident who caused a disturbance on a Zoom Airlines flight has pleaded guilty to charges related air rage. Three of these charges have to do with assault on the Vancouver to London-Gatwick flight. Shick was eventually removed from the aircraft during a stop at the Belfast International Airport. The former passenger was about to be sentenced earlier this week, but the judge decided to adjourn the session after the defendant began to weep, according to a BBC News report.
The accused passenger’s lawyers point to the fact that Shick struggles with an alcohol problem and they also produced documents concerning mental health issues that the Vancouverite faces. Shick has since admitted to charges that he endangered the safety of the plane and other passengers onboard through his behaviour and also that he damaged a seat on the aircraft during his drunken scene on the flight. The out of control passenger was eventually restrained by flight attendants. Despite this, however, Shick spent the next four hours harassing other passengers on board. The judge examining the case has ordered that Shick be examined by a psychiatrist before he is actually sentenced. Shick now faces the possibility of a prison term for the assault charges, or a suspended sentence.
