14, July, 09, Karachi, transporters wheel-jam strike today, more planned unless government withdraws Petroleum Development Levy, which was initiated a day after the Supreme Court of Pakistan had suspended the recovery of carbon tax.

4 May, 09 Monday, Karachi, transporters Ittehad (KTI) demanding compensation to transporters whose vehicles were set fire during recent riots in city. KTI held emergency meeting yesterday with members of mini-buses, coach, trucks, taxi and rickshaws unions. Members expressed grave concern over the killing of 11 innocent drivers and torching of 29 vehicles on April 29. Government has given compensation to relatives of those killed and injured in the riots but not for transporters. Token strike May 8, and 15 May 09 indefinite strike.

5 March, 09  Transit goods and Nato supplies were on the move again today between Pakistan and Afghanistan.  Pakistan trucks had blocked border because of tax, torture by border guards and extortion of money.

2 march 09 Monday Pakistan truck drivers face new transit tax imposed by the  Afghanistan government. An extra tax of INR3,600 ($45) per vehicle.  200 truck Pakistani drivers went on strike and parked on the border in protest.  Afghanistan border policeman recommends Pakistan drivers unload truck contents and let an Afghanistan truck and driver take it from there!  Nato trucks were crossing the border.
