21 September 2012 Here's what NZ bus has to say Bus Services Cancelled

Tramways and First Union who represent NZ Bus drivers and service staff in Auckland have called for strike action this Monday 24th September, after their members failed to ratify a new Collective Agreement.  

All bus services including school bus services operated by Metrolink, North Star, Go West, Waka Pacific, and LINK will not operate on Monday 24th September due to this strike action.

Full services will resume Tuesday 25th September

20 September 2012  Union and management agree to meet tomorrow. A strike is planned for Monday September 24.

17 September 2012 Results from secret ballot are in and bus drivers reject management offer. Any industrial action likely to be a long winded issue.

5 September 2012 It's that time of year again. No agreements have been made so far this year.

Last time:-
Thursday, 15, October, 2009 NZ bus back on the road today.  Dispute not over.  NZ Bus lost $1.1 million in subsidies from the Auckland Regional Transport Authority for failing to deliver on its contract and provide bus services. Drivers and cleaners were believed to have lost a similar amount.

Auckland bus strike, commuters better arrange alternative transportation. Strike expected to last 5-6 days.
13, October, 09 A gesture of good will bus company will lift the lock-out notice and resume all normal services, with effect from 4:00am Thursday morning. Union members will meet Wednesday.


Per NZ bus:-
“This is on the proviso that by 1:30pm tomorrow the unions also lift their strike notice and agree to work with the facilitator to reach a ratified settlement.”
“We have confidence in the facilitation process, and trust that the Unions will join with us to get our buses back on the roads”. 

7, October, 09 The big day.  Highway traffic was smooth. Roads busier than normal, buses  are running are empty. Mainly due to parents staying home with children on school holiday.  Don't use the bus lane or you will be fined $150. 

6, October, Tuesday, Limited replacement service from MAXX.  SERVICES OPERATING AS USUAL
Ritchies, Northern Express, Birkenhead, Bayes, Howick and Eastern, Murphy Buses, Urban Express, Waiheke Island Buses, Tranzit and Airbus Express will be operating as usual.

Train and Ferry services will also be operating as usual. Luckily kids on school holidays.  Anyone needing to find a carpool can list a rideshare wanted for free at http://www.jayride.co.nz 

 5, October, 09  Looks like industrial action at New Zealand buses will start this 4am Thursday, 8, October, 2009. 

Company may lock bus drivers out.  Bus drivers plans are to work-to-rule, checking for lost property, refusing to drive any buses with any defects and fastidiously following the company’s handbook. 

This could be severely disruptive for bus passengers, commuting to work will be a nightmare.  Leave early, get your boots out, arrange a ride, parking spaces will fill up fast. Weather will be cold

28, September, 09 NZ bus drivers have voted for industrial action, no date set just yet.  Managements last offer that was rejected, 4.2% 3.0% and 3.3% over three years. At present drivers earn $14.05 and $16.75 an hour.

24, September, 09 NZ Bus running as normal, talks on Monday with the Employment Relations Authority requested by NZ Bus.  Union will decided whether to attend.

16, September, 09 NZ Buses general manager Zane Fulljames announced today that it would be seeking the help of the Employment Relations Authority. Parties never met today because of this. Unions will now meet Thursday. 

14, September, 09 Monday, All parties in talks today.

11, September, 09 Friday 09  Two hour bus stoppage today at lunch time. 11-1pm 1000 bus drivers on strike and wanting an extra 70c per hour. Average yearly bus driver salary $41,000 a year.

7, September,09 strike called off. Offer will be put to the drivers on Friday, when the companies' buses will not operate between 11am and 1pm to allow drivers to attend the meeting. 

7, September,09 Strike by Metrolink, Go West, Waka Pacific, North Star, Link, and City Circuit bus services. Called for by Auckland Combined Unions bus drivers. Strike will begin 4am Wednesday, September 9th till further notice! 700 buses will be off road. 

Transportation Auckland Corporation (TACL) &Cityline New Zealand Limited have been in negotiations with the unions representing  bus drivers & cleaners in Auckland.

Normal services will be able to resume if either the unions lift their notice of strike action and agree to resume bargaining, or if the members ratify an agreement that accepts the terms and conditions of the latest offer.

11/26/08  New Zealand buses, Public transportation, Hamilton, After five days Go Bus drivers reached a pay deal with Go Bus. Bus drivers getting an "abysmal" $13.50 an hour.  Drivers had wanted a 16% increase in their wages, which would have seen them get $16 an hour. Go Bus say they would not have been able to absorb that increase. Bus drivers accepted a 5.6% increase offer which brings them to $14.27 an hour.

15 February 2016 NZ Bus drivers will strike for 24 hours, 4am Friday 19 February, 2016 till 5:30am Saturday morning. This will include drivers for Hawick and Eastern bus drivers.
The Tramways Union members will be picketing at the Swanson Depot the day of the strike along with a bbq.
135,000 commuters are expected to be displaced. North Star, Metrolink, Go West and Waka Pacific, Outer Link bus service, and City Link.
Union will plan days where drivers will not handle money till April Fool’s Day. Dates are February 29, March 7, 8, 14-16,
21-24, 28 and April 1, 2016.

Workers are already on a work to rule, go slow. Some drivers will stop work for bathroom brakes and for safety reasons passengers will be asked to disembark the bus.
Aukland Transport will have a contingency place in place. Bad news is, it's going to be raining and Friday night's commute home will be a nightmare.
