7/24/09 Friday, Private bus associations, 6, transport unions, have unanimously decided to go on an indefinite strike today, Friday. 15,000 private buses, 37,500 taxis and 70,000 three-wheel motorised vehicles.
Government has promised 2,000, government run commercial vehicles and buses run by CSTC, WBSTC, CTC and tramcars.
Transport operators are complaing about the ban on 15 year old vehicles, pre-1993, whether it's taxi, bus, transporter in Kolkata and country wide. Which will come into effect July 31.
90 percent of three-wheel motorised vehicles will not be able to ply the roads from August 1.
