1/20/2009 All train traffic in and out of Cairo was suspended for five hours today. Drivers after pay increase that was promised to them last November. Management offered to pay half the increase starting from this July and the rest from January 2010! Lowest paid drivers earn less than 200 Egyptian pounds ($35.80US) after years of service. New meeting with management scheduled in ten days.

1/27/09 Week after drivers last protest signalmen, switch operators and crossing guards had a three hour strike after management form Egyptian National Railway (ENR) reneged on a meeting. Strike suspended after workers told someone would meet with hem in 48 hours.
