Sarnia Transportation, Transit Strike. Another Canadian bus strike.
January 18, 2009 per CAW Local 456, A tentative deal was struck late Thursday afternoon, January 15, 2009, between the Sarnia Transit workers and the City of Sarnia The ratification vote date is set for Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the CAW Local 456 Union Hall, located on the corners of Russell and Campbell Street, Sarnia, Ontario for 7:30 pm.
Tuesday, 13 January, 2009 Possible, Sarnia bus strike. Sarnia Transit employees, drivers and maintenance staff and Union officials hope to resolve issues this week to avert a strike. On going issue since 17 December, 2008, Sarnia Transit workers have been battling for a contract with Unions and management since December, 07. Meetings scheduled this Thursday regarding benefits and wages and Union filed for conciliation, 20 January 2009.
Sarnia Transit drivers are paid $21 per hour. Drivers at present are categorized with the works department and want to be treated like other city departments. See ETR coverage of the huge OCTranspo strike going on now.
