9, Jan, 2010, GRTC public transit company break off talks today with no agreement made. The Amalgamated Transit Union's Local 1220 will vote Sunday, 17, January, over a new offer from management. Workers have been without a contract since Oct. 1. Union want a $305 uniform allowance and a pay raise for para transit drivers who earn $11 and hour.
Management will run a skeleton service if need be and have 250 non union workers, plus management who are x bus drivers.
"Our goal is to save jobs -- not have any layoffs," he said, while maintaining the same pay and benefit levels. "There is no money for raises."
Wages make up about half of the company's $46 million annual budget, Lewis said.
